For the past 7 mourning days, I have been reading all the articles on how LKY fought to build Singapore from a third world to a first world country, how LKY influenced each indivuals' lives and his personalities.
It may look like all these articles were like propaganda of showing him as the greatest person but what I believe is that, if you are really that great, not just one person will be mourning on your lost. All these articles came from Singaporeans of all walks of life, from Ministers, MPs and even a normal Singaporean like I am. How is it possible that they all shares the same message when they don't belong to the same working industry.
Read:
Reading all this achievements and looking at the number of foreign dignitaries and good friends all around the world to come and pay their last respects to him was so overwhelming. The more I read, the more I felt proud to be here in this little red dot he had built up.
They felt like he had built so much relationship and friendships through his politician years which took almost 3/4 of his life. These relationships had helped Singapore to be built up to such a strong and safe place. It was really an honour whenever I see the list of important personalities attending the funeral at the Parliament.
The things he did were always in the Social Studies book but the book has never mentioned who was the man behind all the policies. All that mentioned was, the Singapore government. Now to think about it, there were so many things I've learnt from the textbook that I actually knew what they were but I have never questioned about who was the one who thought about these. (PM Lee addressing on the few policies that LKY has came up with currently; Tree Planting/ River Cleaning/ Birth Control)
Read an article the other day and I think I should share it.

Was discussing about this the other day with Laila and yes, agreed on the fact that no leaders are that purely great. There had to be extreme measures to be done and in Singapore context, extreme measures such as "exile" of potential antis and whatever was that "Operation Cold Storage". Of course, a leader does what he has to do to protect his nation and these were what he had to do. To protect us.
Taking reference to USSR in the past.
Stalin was a brutal leader. He sacrificed so many people to achieve his industrialisation plans. All the propagandas and all the purges. These were way more extreme measures taken by the leader of USSR compared to what we had here, LKY. But what was visible was that, the 5 year industrialisation plan were acheived and the people did benefit from under his regime.
Well, that was true right. 'A leader does what he does to protect his nation.'
Singapore was all his life. What a waste of such a great man to go.
"Dear Mr Lee,
Thank you for what you have done to build up Singapore from a third world country to first world. All that you have done, we see it everywhere right now.
I apologise that I decided to give up going to the Parliament House to pay my last respects to you on Friday night because of the fear for big crowd. I was never a crowd lover and thinking about the crowd that may had built up after the temporary closure of the queue in the night. Headed to Istana for the tribute site and I wrote my last words for you. However, a simple thank you will never be enough to compare to what you had done to us.
Dear Mr Lee, please bless and take care of your family. For the past 7 days, your family was unable to be right beside you. They only managed to have a private session with you on the first 2 days. Especially PM Lee, who had to overcome his pain almost immediately and announce your passing as a third person, as a Prime Minister. Over the days, foreign dignitaries and your good friends from all around the world were here and he had to take care of them. He must have felt so tired. Even now that he had to address you as in a third person context.
It hit me more and more that how was he able to do so when his own beloved father had passed away. I was watching the funeral service and they address PM Lee as the Prime Minister and Mr Lee Hsien Yang as your son. It was so minimal but so heartening to hear this. I hope you can bless him with all that you have.
Dear Mr Lee, it has been a great loss that you have passed on but I always believe one thing, 'if it is your time, it is your time.' You have spent your entire life, devoted to Singapore and now, it's finally time for you to let go and rest. May you reunite with Mrs Lee and rest in peace.
I'm sorry you won't be able to witness the celebrations for our 50 years of independence. It was you who fought for our independence. You teared for the nation then and right now, the nation shall tear for you and it will never be enough.
I was never good with words, but I hope you get my message well enough. You will always be my inspiration in pursuing to make a slight difference in our society.
Thank you, Mr Lee, our founding father, our First Prime Minister. The pride of Singapore. Goodbye.
